Am I the only one getting good deals on gold on Ebay?

Seems that buying gold UNDER spot on ebay has become more common for me.
Not to let out any secrets :rolleyes_m: but I'm referring to foriegn gold coins not the traditional gold like American Eagles, Canadian Maple leafs and lunars. etc.

I haven't even been looking recently. Sovereigns and francs and the like or are you talking relatively obscure stuff? I've gotten some good deals in the past. About 2 years ago I got 6 1/2 oz 20 Euro French gold coins for spot -$30/oz. Right about the same time and price I got some European Olympic commeratives.

Sovereigns in particular. I like Ampex but Ebay is beating even their prices.

Re: Am I the only one getting good deals on gold on Ebay?

If you are patient and wait for the price that you want, you can get very good deals on ebay.
I stick to 99% positive feedback or better sellers with over 200 or so sales.
I completely avoid any coins from asia, lots o fakes out there.
Never had a problem

apmex is my favorite dealer, but they charge 3% extra for cc purchases.

Nope, I love the off brand Gold that you can buy on E-Bay. The higher prices also keeps bidding down, so I buy the gold and trade for silver.:bull-buddy-icon:

Yeah - got a 1/10 ounce Lunar Dog for $75 shipped recently. Beautiful little coin!

It does make you wonder why he used buy-it-now. He could've started the bidding at .99 and gotten more than that for it.

Someone just BIN a similiar auction.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=250199665015

If I'm not mistaken, I'd seen the picture of the coin in past auction. But I can't remember which one. :confused_ma:

Too good to be true...

On the other hand, I think this one is not a bad deal:

Nice looking coin Tom D, does the coin have the gold content stated on the other side? If not I see that as a problem. IMO all real money should state metal content on the coin. Only exceptions are the well recognized classic historical coins like pre 1933 US and Soveriegns etc. :smokin:

No way. Look at the persons history. The highest item I see sold from him is 6 cents.

Re: Am I the only one getting good deals on gold on Ebay?

How do you see his history? All I see is that it is over 6 months old, so nothing is showing. Are you using that one website that gives you all the good details for Ebay feedbacks? Just curious, as I could see this auction fooling someone easily.

Dealer feedback. Then look at the right column for each item listed as "item number". Click on those links.

I'm always scoring good deals on gold from ebay, about 5 coins in the last couple of weeks.

Re: Am I the only one getting good deals on gold on Ebay?

I NEVER find good deals on eBay. :banghead:

Anyone want to share the secret with me? :bear_tongue: The best I have EVER found is gold for a few $$ over spot, then when you throw in shipping & insurance, I can get it cheaper at my favorite dealer.

I keep seeing folks talking about getting gold for under spot...DELIVERED.

Are you guys just spending ALL your time watching eBay? How do you do it? :bear_tongue:

Two weeks ago I did win 2 American 1oz eagles for a good price. Spot was at $797 and I got one for $816.75 total(insured and delivered) and 1 which was slabbed by ICG for $819 total(insured and delivered)

What I have not been able to do for a month is land any American Silver Eagle rolls for less than $325(insured and delivered) Now it seems most are going for $330 to $350:no_ma:

No gold content on the coin, just a face value. I've got 3 other types of French coins, none have gold content on them. I had to locate the coin on a European site to confirm. Yes, I would very much prefer gold content be shown but I really got a deal on these. Here is the obverse of the Olympic coin.

I've gotten significant deals on Ebay for gold coins on 3 occasions and all 3 were obscure coins like the one pictured above.

layria 12-22-2007 02:47 PM

Re: Am I the only one getting good deals on gold on Ebay?

On well known Gold coins, I have never seen one ever go for below spot on Ebay. But a lot of Foreign Gold does, as people just do not know what they are.

It is possible to get good deals. I always compare what it would cost me to purchase a coin at my local shop and various online dealers and then bid accordingly minus shipping charges.

I managed to pick up 22 slabbed Buffalo's at Raw cost or slightly less over the last 2 months, so that was a significant savings. Krugerrand's seem to always be available just a little over spot, but Eagles and pre-1933 always seem to go well over spot prices.

Silver is a whole different world right now on Ebay. Most auctions are going for way over spot and most sellers and buyers seem to think that Silver is already at $20 and beyond. Even 90% has been going for $11 to $12 face.

latemetal 12-22-2007 03:39 PM

Best deal on E-Bay right now?

I"m tapped out so I won't be buying anything, but I'll post any decent buy-it-now auctions I see.:confused_ma:http://cgi.ebay.com/1987-CONSTITUTION-1988-OLYMPIC-4-CN-SETS-GOLD-SILVER_W0QQitemZ180198229273QQihZ008QQcategoryZ411 07QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

OOps, Guess I should have read the whole Auction, for 2 sets, that is not a bad price

latemetal 12-22-2007 09:19 PM

$830.08 if I'm doing it right...

4 times .24187=.96748 times $811.70 = $785.30 and 4 times $14.34 times .7734 =$44.36 Total $829.66 value.:bull-buddy-icon:He is asking $810.95, a good deal but not a GREAT DEAL. Two four coin sets, not one!

Bid low, don't fall in love -- if there's an idiot who is willing to pay 20% over spot, you want no part of that auction -- and search for what you're looking in several different ways, including incorrect spelling and miscategorizations. As you may notice from this board, precious-metals enthusiasts are poor with words: count the number of grammatical errors in one page of thread titles.

I have had 3 awesome deals in about 25 auctions. The rest were mediocre or fair. One load of $75 face in 1964 Kennedy halves came in at 15% under spot, but this was 2 years ago.

I'm not a strong bargainer, or at least I don't claim to be, unlike so many of my friends and family, who assure me that they always win in Vegas each time they go, and always haggle lower prices on everything they buy face-to-face from merchants. But you can do well on eBay if you're patient.

Dunno about gold, but I think I'm doing OK with 90% US silver coins in small lots. I bought 3 1964 Washington quarters for $4.00 (including shipping). Melt value was $7.50 or so. It just takes time and patience...

One thing to do that works especially well on auction-style listings if you have some time is to go into a category and find the page that shows the auctions ending in 10 or so minutes. If you look at "all coins", it's usually about the 45th page. The first 45 pages are from people who have paid to have their auctions put to the top of the list and more people see them and bid on them for that reason. Keep refreshing the page and change to the next or previous if you're not catching the last 10 minutes or so.
